Sticky Fingers: The Art and Science of Tire Gluing

Thursday June 15, 2006
One of the things you learn when you own hobby RCs is how to glue tires... and fingers and small screws and other objects that really weren't meant to be glued to the table or your car.

Most RC cars and trucks have three-part tires: wheel or rim, foam inserts, rubber tires. Although the parts all fit together nicely, glue helps keep the inserts inside and the tires on the rim. Gluing tires is a necessary but sometimes messy job. Some company's make tire gluers (such as the OFNA Tire Gluer) that give you a helping hand by keeping more glue on the rims and less on your fingers and work area. I still do it the old-fashioned way and manually gluing tires remains the most common method but tire gluers can be useful gadgets in the RC toolbox.
