RC Ground Round-Up

Wednesday August 2, 2006
I meant to post this a few days ago but I got caught up in a little traveling down RC memory lane when I was cleaning out a storage locker and finding all sorts of RC toys I'd stored away some time ago. I found my black Camaro ZipZaps and a Tyco R/C Jeff Gordon go-cart -- with the Jeff Gordon doll (or, as we guys call them -- action figure). I also found my micro Gravedigger to go along with the 1:6 and 1:12 versions of this monster truck. But for some less traditional and/or new and notable happenings and findings in the world of RC cars and trucks, check out these:
  • Hot Wheels are Hot RCs: Most every little boy had them as kids but they were powered more by imagination and gravity. Now Mattel has put motors and batteries in their Hot Wheels and created the Hot Wheels R/C line. It includes classic sports cars like the Chevy Corvette and cars from the MTV show Pimp My Ride.

  • Spy Cam on Wheels. Sure, you can use this to spy on unsuspecting friends and family but it could have practical applications too such as getting a crawling baby-eye view of your home to check for child hazards. OK, I'd probably use it for the fun "undercover work" aspect.

  • NASCAR RC. If watching NASCAR racing isn't enough for you, get your own NASCAR race car. These 1/8 scale RC cars run on unleaded gasoline and are painted and decal-ed up to look just like their big brothers. There are electric models as well.

  • Oh Poop! Among the many popular poop products produced by Tokyo-based Aico, one you won't find anymore is their radio-controlled poop car. Gee, sounds like that would be a real top-seller to me.
