Big Guns of the RC Battlefield

Saturday October 28, 2006
My step-son, who is in the military and stationed on the Texas border, and a close friend of ours are both big history buffs -- especially history involving war and combat. They can recite all kinds of fascinating and obscure facts about the Texas War for Independence, combat around the world and through the ages, military strategy and weaponry.

I've never been in the military myself and history isn't my strong suit, but one kind of combat I can get a little excited about is battling it out with RC tanks. I've got a pair of little toy RC tanks that are a lot of fun to play with even if I know squat about proper battlefield maneuvers. I'm also fond of military style gun play -- including Airsoft rifles and good ol' paintball warfare.

Now if the three of us had several hundred dollars each to spend, we could combine all our interests and participate in the RC Tank Combat hobby -- acting out historical and imaginary battles. RC Tank Combat uses large-scale radio controlled tanks and other armored vehicles that shoot paintballs.
The Maryland Attack Group describes itself as "the most powerful R/C tank combat group in the world" and on their Web site you can learn all about building a radio controlled combat vehicle, the official rules of RC tank combat, read Battle Reports (with photos and videos), and use their Locator Map to find other RC battle enthusiasts. Intrigued by this kind of radio controlled action? Explore "The Ultimate Tactical Warfare Game."
