Real World XPV Adventures

I've been a fan of the Fly Wheels XPV since I first sent my brand new red one skimming across the parking lot.

XPV Night and Day XPV - Night and Day by tweebleone

Mine is beat all to heck and to all appearances looks like it couldn't even limp along the ground much less take off into the air. But looks are deceiving. It's still quite flyable.

That doesn't mean it's always been smooth sailing. Mastering the take-off -- getting the acceleration just right -- and keeping the XPV aloft then landing safely didn't come without plenty of failed take-offs, short flights, and rough landings.

In this small batch of videos you can witness the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of other XPV pilots. These videos bring to light a few general RC tips, mainly:

  • Power lines are not friend to the flying RC.
  • Stay close when doing night flying without lights.
  • Practice, practice, practice.
  • The exhilaration of one sustained flight makes up for dozens of failed attempts.

When I discussed the XPV previously, it received mixed reviews. Some loved it. Some hated it saying it breaks too easily, crashes too easily, and is too difficult to control in flight. For others, it's been a joy to own. Want to take a chance? The price since Christmas has come down considerably.
