Between a Kit and an RTR

Wednesday February 27, 2008
I've been buying mostly Ready-to-Run RCs lately but it wasn't always that way. Some of my fondest memories from my early RC days involved building my own RC from scratch or from unassembled kits. If you're mostly into the racing and not much on model building, an RTR is the way to go. But if you want to customize or upgrade an RTR right away, you're stuck with extra expense and unwanted parts from the preassembled RC. For those who want to skip the nitty-gritty assembly steps but still use their own electronics you can look for RCs such as HPI Racing's preassembled Wheely King 4x4 with no electronics. You get a mostly put together RC but you add your own electronics and radio.
