Are Big RC Toys Better?

Wednesday December 17, 2008
As adults we know that really good things often come in small packages. But for little kids, big equates to better. And some of the RC toys on the shelves this season are BIG. Walking through Toys 'R Us over the weekend my wife marveled at the size of some of those RCs like the New Bright Mega Max 1:5 scale 7.2V Electric Buggy (Compare Prices). It's well over 2 feet long.

If you're thinking about getting one of these monster-sized RC toys, keep in mind that this big size doesn't necessarily translate to big speed -- the battery size typically found in toy-grade RCs just aren't powerful enough to get a vehicle of that size moving very fast. Of course that's probably a good thing if the RC is hurtling out of control straight for your feet and a gleeful 8 year old is at the controls.

Make sure you have enough room to operate these big toys. Most 1:5, 1:6, and even 1:8 RC cars and trucks are going to be a little big for most living rooms -- you'll want to take them outside.
