Buying New or Used?
Wednesday February 4, 2009
I ran across an article by Sylvain Lafrance about How to choose the right vehicle for you One of the first things that jumped out at me was the statement
"If this is your first vehicle, buy it NEW. You don't need other people's problems."Good advice. There is nothing wrong with buying used RCs. I do it myself. But when buying your first RC -- especially a hobby-grade RC and if you have little or no mechanical or electronics experience -- you generally are better off starting with a brand new RC right out of the box. And it's often a good idea to make your first RC one from a well-established reputable local hobby shop. You'll be able to get hands-on, face-to-face support. Later on, once you're really comfortable with the inner workings of a hobby RC you may try buying online and buying used.
Here's a video I found: How to buy and sell a used RC vehicle that tells you right up front, "If you are new to the hobby don't buy used..." and goes on to explain why.

That’s pretty sound advice and you really don’t save that much by buying a used RC vehicle.
Buying new is always best in my opinion. There’s a reason someone is selling their ‘old stuff’…usually it’s not good. It may look good, but you really don’t know how it’s been treated…unless you personally know the owner.
