Put a Camera On-Board

Monday March 9, 2009
Got to talking to one of the plumbers we had to call in last week (old pipes, ugh) and discovered that he had himself a RC boat. A big one. He was telling tales about some of his adventures on the water (including a high speed crash into the houseboat he was operating from). An on-board video camera would have surely added to the excitement -- reliving the action over and over again as if you were on-board your RC. Traxxas has a waterproof, easy-to-mount GoPro R/C Hero video camera (Buy Direct or Compare Prices) that you can install on boats, planes, trucks, and other RC vehicles. The easy mounting and being able to quickly view on TV or computer are what appeal to me most. Have you tried one? Tell us about it.

I don’t have one, but have seen some videos from the Traxxus one you referred to. Pretty awesome footage…might be worth the investment!

I recently came across a video on YouTube about an RC submarines. The driver moved it to the surface, then submerged, then maneuvered it through a tube that looled like a concrete culvert. It was fascinating.

That is killer footage. I guess if you don’t have one you could always try a “Flip” video recorder sealed in a waterproof box. Not sure how it would hold up on an RC truck though… too much vibration.
