My Adventures in Building the Scorpion Rock Crawler
I've been on an RC kit building binge over the last several weeks. And it started with the Scorpion. The Axial AX10 is a 1:10 Scale Competition Rock Crawler comes in four different configurations or levels of completeness from ready-to-run (just add batteries) to a kit where you not only supply the electronics, you build the rock crawler.
With a kit, you assemble everything from putting together the gears and axles (step 1) to assembling the transmission (steps 15 through 18) to mounting the tires and body (steps 35 and 36)
I got the kit. Despite some moments of frustration -- it's been several years since I built a model and this was my first rock crawler -- it was an overall rewarding experience. I gave it 4.5 stars in my review of the Scorpion RC Rock Crawler Kit. If you've built this kit yourself, be sure to submit a User Review at the end of my review and tell us what you thought about this kit and the resulting vehicle.
Culled from hundreds of photos, I put together a 41 page image gallery on Building the Scorpion showing everything that comes in the kit and many of the stages during the build process. You'll find details on Scorpion features and at least one picture where I put a piece on upside-down.
The only step missing -- painting the body. We're building several RCs right now and the unpainted bodies are piling up. But there will be some painting tutorials coming along at some point.

Ive never built a r/c from a kit before but I have had a couple of rock crawlers that I’ve worked on and upgraded before..Woould that make it easier for me to build the scorpion or some other rcok crawl kit do you think?
