In some places, before you can roar into RC racing, you have to join ROAR or an organization like it or at least abide by their rules. It's organizations like ROAR that help keep RC racing civilized and organized by coming up with racing rules and guidelines including determining what kinds of vehicles and modifications are allowed in ROAR sanctioned races. They also put together teams to represent the US and Canada in IFMAR World championship RC races. Similar organizations for other countries -- such as EFRA and FEMCA -- do the same.

Organizations like ROAR are necessary to keep people and events in line. I can’t imagine that organized racing would be possible without some kind of governing organization. I am sure there are politics involved like any other group, but it is good to know that they exist so that races can be organized in an orderly fashion and everyone has to be on the same page and follow the same rules.
