Do I Need to Join an RC Club?

By Michael James, About.com

Question: Do I Need to Join an RC Club?

Clubs and organizations devoted to radio controlled vehicles can be found at the local, national, and international level.

Answer: Joining a club in your area is not a prerequisite for enjoying the hobby of radio controlled vehicles but it is a great way to meet other RC enthusiasts.

For the beginner, a local RC club devoted to your RC of choice is a good way to find an instructor, participate in organized races, and gain insider information on the best places to buy vehicles and accessories in your area. Local clubs often have organized meets both for racing and just playing with your radio controlled electric and nitro cars, trucks, airplanes, and boats.

Being a member of certain national organizations allows you access to resources you might not otherwise be able to use. For example, some US fields will not allow you to fly your RC airplane without AMA liability insurance coverage.
