Some radio control (RC) enthusiasts rely entirely on their own backyard tracks or local parks to race their vehicles. But if there's an RC track near you, you can also up your game by preparing for and entering competitions. Some race tracks require membership in a national organization in order to use them, while others are more relaxed. To get started, first check locally, then get online and surf the directories we've listed below.

Local Hobby Shops

The best place to start is with your local RC hobby shop. Either they'll have an RC track right on the premises that you can use or they can point you to local RC tracks or clubs that hold regular races at tracks they set up specifically for weekly or monthly events. They'll also let you know which tracks and races require a membership before you can use them. Your local hobby shop is also a great place to meet other racers. And, who knows, together you might set up your own races and/or clubs.

RC Car Action Track Directory

The online site for Radio Control Car Action magazine is a great source of information for both hobbyists and serious enthusiasts. It includes a comprehensive directory of the best places to race your vehicles in just about every state in the U.S., along with a calendar of race events. The site is also worth perusing for advice on buying your first RC vehicle, where to buy them, and even how to build your own. You can also check out dozens of how-to videos and post questions and share info on the site's forum, all free of charge.

Quarter Scale Auto Club (QSAC)

This national organization sets the rules and regulations for quarter scale RC oval track racing in the United States, and hosts a yearly national championship race that takes place each year in the fall. Membership gives you access to a great forum with information on where to prepare for individual races and for the championship. In addition, QSAC membership is required to run at the organization's sanctioned facilities and races. With 400 members on the books to date, QSAC is a wealth of information, advice, and camaraderie for RC racers at all levels.

RC Universe

RC Universe is another comprehensive website that offers info on just about everything the RC racer needs to know. Search their database by type, country, and keyword to find a place to race your RC car, truck, plane, helicopter, or boat. You can also buy and sell vehicles here, read reviews on specific makes and models, join the forums, and even take classes in RC operation and racing. RC Universe even has its own YouTube page, which features over 2,000 videos covering just about every aspect of the RC world.
