Definition: Short for propeller, a prop is a mechanical device that pushes or pulls against air or water. In the case of RC vehicles, it helps to move the vehicle. One or more props can be found on RC airplanes, helicopters, boats, submarines, and hybrid vehicles that fly or move through the water.

RC boats and submarines generally have rear-facing props that push the vehicle through the water. Airplanes may have rear-facing push props or forward-facing pull props.

The props on RC helicopters work a bit differently and are usually called rotor blades. The main rotor blades are on top of the vehicle and the tail rotor blades are at the back end of the helicopter.

The prop may have two, three, or sometimes more individual angled blades. The angle or pitch of the blades helps to provide speed, lift, and power.
