Definition: A paperclip-like fastener known as a cotter pin has many uses. In the world of RCs, the body pins that hold the body on the chassis of an RC are tiny cotter pins. The body of an RC fits over body mounting posts on the chassis. The cotter pin goes through a small hole on the body mounting post to hold the body on the chassis. Additionally a cotter pin might be used to hold a tire on the axel or hold lift struts or other parts on an RC airplane.

Easily lost or misplaced, it is a good idea to have extra cotter pins in your RC toolbox. A quick fix when cotter pins are lost is to use a paper clip or a small bent piece of stiff wire.

Cotter Pin Tip: After removing the body of your RC, put the cotter pins back in the body mounting posts so you don't have to go scavenging around your work area or in your tool box when you're ready to put the body back on.
