On-Road Tire

By Michael James, About.com

Definition: An on-road tire is typically a treadless foam or plastic tire designed for RC vehicles that drive on hard surfaces including floors and carpet.

Foam or medium compound on-road tires work best on carpet. For asphalt or street racing, on-road RC vehicles typically use foam tires or soft compound tires with a street tread although they may be made of rubber compound for increased durability.

On-road tires for RC drifting are commonly made of hard (and durable) plastic PVC or slightly softer ABS pipe. Some manufacturers produce compound tires specifically for drifting.
