Oversteer

Simplified illustration of oversteer.

© J. James
Definition: When a vehicle is attempting to turn and the rear wheels do not follow behind the front wheels but instead slide out toward the outside of the turn creates a condition known as oversteer.

Oversteer can occur when turning the steering wheel too sharply when making a turn or going around a curve. Oversteer can throw the car into a spin; however, in RC drifting oversteering is done intentionally.

Pronunciation: \'o-ver-,stir\
Also Known As: sliding
