Wheelie Bar

By Michael James, About.com

Definition: The role of a wheelie bar is to keep the RCs front end from lifting too far off the ground (or keep it from lifting at all during fast acceleration) and to keep it from flipping over when performing a wheelie -- driving on its back tires with the front tires up off the ground. RC vehicles that need wheelie bars are rear wheel drive vehicles with a lot of torque or power. When the front end lifts and only the rear tires are on the ground, the wheelie bar keeps the vehicle stabilized and allows the rear wheels to maintain traction during acceleration.

The wheelie bar is a set of springy or very slightly flexible arm braces with one or two small wheels attached at the end. Wheelie bars attach to the rear frame and come in different sizes both to fit a specific vehicle and to allow different wheelie angles. The arms may be plastic or lightweight metal. The wheels are usually made of plastic or rubber compound.

Alternate Spellings: wheely bar
