1:8 Scale Ready-to-Run Nitro Monster Trucks

By , About.com Guide

Monster trucks excel in rough off-road terrain but can handle most any surface. Spewing dirt, climbing rocks, and doing jumps off ramps and hills make monster trucks an RC favorite. In the 1:8 scale RTR nitro monster truck arena, HPI, DuraTrax, Team Associated, OFNA, and Kyosho each have a powerful entry. See the 1:10 Scale Ready-to-Run Nitro Monster Trucks for more monster action.

Team Losi LST:

Although the Revo beat out the LST as the RC Car Action Reader's Choice in 2005, staff named it their choice as Truck of the Year. The next generation 4WD nitro LST2 features a new Mach 427 engine, redesigned driveshafts, axles, and suspension components along with a JR XS3 FM radio system.

HPI Savage:

The newest in the popular HPI Savage series, the Savage X, features a 4.07cc big block engine, 2-speed transmission, and 4 wheel drive. A chassis redesign provides a 5mm lower center of gravity than previous Savage designs and easy access to key components such as the gear box and differentials.

Team Associated Monster GT:

Described as "serious competition" to other popular monster trucks, such as HPI Savage, the Monster GT features a 4.6cc nitro engine with dual-starting system, tuned racing pipe, disc brake, and 2-speed reversible transmission.

DuraTrax Warhead EVO:

This 4-wheel drive monster truck with reverse has improved strength, adjustability, and ease of maintenance. It has two suspension modes including 3.75 inches of ground clearance in "Rumble Mode" and multiple adjustable features for fine-tuning for different types of terrain.

HPI Hellfire:

While the Savage is the "basher" the Hellfire is less about monster jumps and stunts and more about off-road speed and handling.

OFNA Titan Twin:

Dual big block engines and double decker chrome chassis give the Titan Twin extra power, speed, and strength. There's also a 2-speed transmission and dual fuel tanks.

Team Losi Aftershock:

Billed as an entry level monster truck, the Aftershock has a big block M26SS engine, 2-speed transmission, mega-sized shocks, and the Team Losi exclusive JR XR2i radio system.

Team Losi Muggy:

This buggy-like monster truck draws from several Team Losi vehicle designs and parts such as the LST2 suspension and Losi Sport 427 engine.

Kyosho Giga Crusher:

Four-Wheel independent suspension, super-strong chassis, heavy duty differentials, and three-speed transmission are some of the key features of this atypical nitro truck.
