Kyosho Corporation

From , former About.com Guide

For the radio controlled vehicles hobby Kyosho produces ready-to-run on-road and off-road electric and nitro RC cars and trucks. They also have airplanes, helicopters, boats, and a few specialty RCs.

My Personal Experience With Kyosho:

As far as I can remember, Kyosho has been one of the top industry leaders radio controlled vehicles. Back in the late 80's, when I first got into the RC hobby my first hobby-grade RC was the OPTIMA 1/10 Electric Buggy by Kyosho. It appeared in the first 1/10 Electric Buggy World Championships held in America in 1985. After getting a hold of one I was definitely hooked. I continue to be involved in the sport to this day.

A Little History About Kyosho:

Kyosho has been involved in the RC hobby world since October of 1963. It started with the founders Mr. Hisashi Suzuki, Mr. Naohiko Otsuki(lead developer of the DASH 1), and Mr. H. Suzuki who brought up the idea of the first RC car.

Since then, they have been involved in not only RC vehicles but also die cast models and robots.

XMODS vs. Mini-Z: Mini Rivalry:

With sales commencing in 1999, the Kyosho Mini-Z racers were the first palm-sized RC on the market. In my opinion the Mini-Z racers are far more of a hobby-grade RC than their rival XMODS. I have had the chance to own XMODS but only have had the chance to look at Mini-Z racers. The complexity of the Mini-Z is more intricate in design than the XMODS, so is the craftsmanship which Kyosho is known for.

Kyosho RC Car and Truck Lines:

Other top shelf hobby-grade RC vehicles by Kyosho include the Inferno, Ultima, and Lazer series, and their GP series of RC touring cars. A partial list includes:
  • The Ultima series are 1:10 scale Electric 2WD buggies and trucks.
  • The Lazer series are 1:10 scale Electric 4WD buggies.
  • The Inferno series are 1:8 scale Electric 4WD buggies and 4WD Nitro buggies and trucks. The Mini Inferno RCs are 1:18 scale.
  • DBX is the 1:10 scale Nitro buggy line.
  • The Fazer line includes both electric and nitro on-road touring cars.
  • They also have labels like Half 8 for their 1:16 scale line.

Kyosho Offers More Than RC Cars and Trucks:

Kyosho didn't stop there they also have a line-up of both electric and nitro powered planes and helicopters as well — also produced in mini and full scale.

The section of what is simply labeled "other" on their website has a little bit of everything from RC tanks and snow craft to RC motorcycles that have riders that actually lean into the turns for more added realism. I personally think that once they get the robot section complete I will be excited beyond belief. Knowing what Kyosho has done for RC vehicles, their robots should be very interesting.
