How Fast Are Indoor RC Airplanes?

By , About.com Guide

Question: How Fast Are Indoor RC Airplanes?
Slow flyers are typically indoor flyers and as the name suggests, these RC airplanes don't go real fast.
Answer: While some RC airplanes can run at 40-60 mph or faster, indoor RC airplanes are slow flyers. Even in a large gym there isn't enough room to zoom quickly from end to end and make the turn. With slower moving airplanes you have time to react to avoid obstacles and circle the room.

Indoor RC airplanes are also usually very lightweight which can make them slower. For indoor flight, slow is good. Afterall, you don't want a heavy, speeding plane crashing into your walls or knocking over lamps in your living room, do you? Expect speeds from 2 to 15 mph for most slow-flying indoor RC airplanes.
