The Art of Doing RC Wheelies

What Electric RCs Can Do Wheelies With a Stock Setup?

Toy-grade RCs don't generally have powerful enough motors to do wheelies. It takes a combination of enough torque/horsepower and speed normally only found in hobby-grade RCs. Even with a hobby-grade RC, the stock electric motor may not be powerful enough for good wheelie-poppin' action.

The first hobby-grade RC that comes to my mind for doing wheelies was released in October of 2007 from HPI Racing. Purposely named The Wheely King, this 4X4 truck can do both off-road racing and monstrous wheelies with its combination of a high torque 540 motor and 4-wheel drivetrain.

Other RC vehicles such as the Traxxas Rustler, Stampede, E-Maxx, Sledgehammer, and Srt are a few of the electric hobby-grade RCs that are capable of doing wheelies with their stock brushed motors.

A brushless setup also offers wheelie capabilities due to the high voltage brushless motor. With a little practice anyone can learn to master the art of pulling wheelies both short and long distances.
