The Art of Doing RC Wheelies

By Michael James, About.com

Where is the Best Place to Do a Wheelie?

Any smooth (but not wet or slick) surface such as asphalt or concrete will generally work well for doing wheelies because they provide traction. Slick cement or loose dirt may not provide enough traction for the tires -- they'll spin out of control.

Some RC vehicles can do wheelies off-road in grass or dirt. RCs made for off-road action such as monster trucks and truggies have the tires and the suspension to handle the terrain. Street tires in loose dirt or on grass probably won't allow for much wheelie action but it may be possible with knobby, ground-grabbing tires.

Because you can't steer when the front wheels are off the ground, you probably don't want to be poppin' a lot of wheelies on a curvy track.
