How Do You Make a Wheelie Bar?

If you are unable to find a wheelie bar for your vehicle at your local hobby shop there are several sites online where you can purchase wheelie setup accessories. There are wheelie bars that are designed for particular RCs and there are some that are universally adaptable to almost all hobby-grade RCs. If you are having trouble finding one that fits your RC, you can always try making your own.

These pages show examples of homemade wheelie bars or provide tutorials on how to make your own wheelie bar.

  • This RC Universe forum thread shows the homemake wheelie bar for an HPI Savage. Scroll down the page to see the wheelie bar mounted.

  • In this Traxxas T-Maxx video clip the RC driver is going the distance and maintaining decent stability with a homemade wheelie bar in place.

  • Check this picture of a Cheap as Dirt Wheelie Bar that one dad made out of some wheels from a old office chair. The son says it "works really really good."

  • In the rcgroups.com forum there are some pics of a really nice wheelie bar designed from solid aluminum hub 1 1/4" RC plane wheels. One pic shows the wheelie bar mounted on a Traxxas Electric Stampede.

  • In this video of an electric Savage the RC driver simulates how his homemade version of a wheelie bar is supposed to work. In another brief video of this same Savage in action you catch a glimpse of a wheelie.

  • This tutorial from eHow describes the basic procedure for making your own wheelie bar.
