Some UFO sightings might be a attributed to a radio controlled flying toy. At night or seen from a distance, someone unfamiliar with RCs could be fooled or confused. Sometimes the operator may be intentionally trying to perpetuate a UFO hoax, perhaps by outfitting an RC with glowing lights or making some other
fool the eye modifications. Or, it might just be a case of mistaken identity. Here are some signs to look for when trying to decide if that thing hovering in the sky might be a real UFO or just something radio controlled by some kid or adult on the ground.
It might be an RC if...

Hand Held Mini RC UFO Image Courtesy of PriceGrabberRadio controlled flying saucers and blimps come in many shapes and sizes. Some are quite small and not likely to be seen from afar. Others can be much larger and often take traditional "flying disc" shapes or come equipped with glowing lights.
2. ...you hear the buzz of a little electric motor.
Don't hear a buzz? You might be too far away.3. ...you see an antenna.
However, the antenna might not be readily visible on all types of flying RCs. So don't assume it's not an RC just because there is not antenna sticking out. But if there is, chances are it's a RC buzzing around up there.4. ...you see someone nearby holding a controller.
A hand-held transmitter or
controller sends radio signals to the radio receiver in the RC vehicle to tell it what to do.
5. ...it stays in the same area flying around and around.
Radio controlled aircraft have a limited range. You're not going to see an RC toy going for miles unless the operator is flying it while taking a nice long hike (and even then, he'll probably need to stop and change the batteries a time or two).6. ...it seems to float or hover but doesn't travel at high speed.
RC airplanes can go fast but they don't hover. RC helicopters and RC UFO toys and radio controlled blimps can hover and float but they don't typically fly at high speeds.7. ...it is only seen flying just above and below the tree line.
Radio controlled toys aren't likely to go soaring thousands of feet into the air or disappearing into a cloud bank.8. ...it keeps showing up over your neighbor's back yard week after week.
Go knock on his door and find out if he's an RC enthusiast. Hey, it might even be me!
