Make a Watertight Seal for Your RC Boat

Stop Water from Getting Inside Your RC Boat

By Michael James, About.com

Although the electronics inside your RC boat may be waterproofed or sealed up, sometimes water still gets inside parts of the boat where you don't want it to be. A friend who owns the Traxxas Blast, a hobby-grade electric RC boat had this problem.

A slight gap where the canopy of the boat attached to the hull let water into the boat. The quick fix? A homemade seal made of silicone.

Don't just squirt a line of silicone around the gap -- you still need to be able to take off the cover to get at the internal parts from time to time. Instead, remove the canopy and run a very thin bead of silicone around the rim and let it dry. When the canopy is put back on the hull it forms a tight seal that keeps the water out.
