XMODS Street Series

Back on the Street But With Some Differences

XMODS returned near the end of 2008 but I haven't seen many of them in our local Radio Shack stores until recently. When I first reported on the return of the XMODS back in October 2008 I noted that "Under the hood they're the same as the Evolution (Generation 2) series but the Street series has all new styles." But that's not exactly true.

What's New With XMODS Street Series

Not much has changed in the way of available parts. Upgrades, like the motor upgrade are the same as the Evolution series. The all-wheel drive kit is also the same. Really, the only thing that is different is the body styles. Oh, and one other very significant change: no frequency crystals. Like many RC toys, the XMODS now have set frequency bands. Each specific vehicle has its own band so you can run several vehicles at the same time -- as long as each one is a different band. But you can't change out the crystals like you can with hobby-grade RCs or earlier versions of the XMODS.

Reader Soles writes: [blockquote shaded=yes]"I truly feel they have taken a step backwards with no body kits, fixed crystal and poor packing. There isn’t even and option to upgrade seeing there is no screw holes for bodie kits or spoilers."

Despite those drawbacks, we're still excited to see that XMODS haven't gone away completely. Whether or not you have all the first and second generation XMODS or you're just getting into them, you have yet another group to choose from. Here is a run down of what I seen so far. I don't know how big this batch of RCs is going to be == only time will tell.

XMODS Street Series Starter Kits

As with the other series of XMODS I intend on getting the whole collection like I did with the Evolution series -- well, if the holder of the household pocketbook allows it.

There are some upgrades listed on the RadioShack web site for the Evolution series but I'm pretty sure that they will fit just fine in the Street series as well.
